Ryan's "Nest"

I tried to capture a spider in his (her?) nest. Technically, I did manage a photo of a spider in it's web. Artistically..... yeah.

Cory's Nest

The housing market has also been bad for birds lately, especially considering how hard it is to sell a used nest in the first place. The previous tenant of this one chose a particularly bad place to build - in the middle of the giant cactus in my front yard.

Mike's "Nest"

What you see here is my "Man Cave", or "Nest".  Once or twice a year, I may actually hatch out a creative idea here.  You can tell it's a man cave because of the sign above my head, a Christmas present from Sandra.
Stacked in the corner are pictures that she had framed for me.  I have refused to hang them on the bare walls you see until she gets the point of what a man cave is.  She doesn't understand that it is like an embassy, and a part of the house she does not have domain over.  Next time she touches it, I'm going to redecorate her fireplace mantle with things I found at Good Will.

Ryan's "Logo"

A commonly seen logo - Black & Decker and an even more common but rarely noticed logo - UL.

Cory's Logo

Before moving to Los Alamos last spring, I spent 11 years being a summer student and actual employee at Argonne National Laboratory. At one point they went through a very important branding exercise that gave the lab its current representative image, but before that they had this thing as their logo. Some have described it as resembling a rude body position, but I think it is just a logo that didn't age well.

Mike's "Logo"

Logos.  Oh, so many to choose from.  I'm off to another hobby of mine, and did not give this a lot of time.  This is the Triumph logo as it stands on the gas tank of a 2003 Bonneville t100.
Its not a word you can easily trademark, for instance we have a Triumph Glass in Omaha, but you can copyright a logo. I wish I had taken the time to wash the bugs off.  Hopefully my soft focus is hiding most of them!

Logo from John Baker

Now everybody knows why I smell the way I do and that I have sensitive teeth.

David's "4th of July"

The 4th was very low key this year, being that much of the area around us seemed to be on fire and we had just returned from the U.K. two days before and were still getting used to the time change. Sitting around my in-laws while waiting for the bbq to finish cooking I looked down and snapped this photo of the bazillion or so ants that seem to have erupted in force this summer.

Mike's Fourth of July

I took many pictures of the Fireworks downtown over the 4th of July weekend.  I will refrain from saying the name of this venue, because I'm not convinced the city needed to build it.  OK enough politics.
My favorite picture of the evening was when I was setting up down at Millers Landing I snapped a night picture of the Bob Kerry Bridge.  But I used that in another post, and it really was not about the 4th of July!

Cory's Fourth of July

We had originally planned on staying in Los Alamos for the Fourth of July this year, but we changed our minds at the last minute when northern New Mexico caught fire: when they kicked us out of town we decided to make our traditional trip to Omaha despite having a kid that was only 2.5 weeks old. While there I took the usual pictures of fireworks, and after getting back I took the unusual pictures of fire. However, out of the batch I liked the one above best. They've been running helicopter missions all week to keep the fire under control, and this is one of them coming back from dumping its water. They've been keeping our little airport busy for the last two weeks now.

Ryan's "Fourth of July"

Last night I went to a friend of a friend's Fourth/Ninth of July Party. He had a fireworks show that was actually better than the one Bank of the West put on last week.

I ended up a little too close and had to use the fisheye. I wish I had been farther back.

The rest of the show is here.

Ryan's "Floor"

Floors are the domain of the very young. Today we see Emily (the newest addition to Cory's family) checking out my parent's floor.

Mike's "Floor"

Once again we visit the now drained Zorinsky Lake.  New topic, same no-lake, different look.  We can, however, see the lake's floor.
The lake was drained last fall in an attempt to kill off an infestation of Zebra Mussels.  The were found in the lake by a boy scout, and have no natural predator in North America, so the lake was drained until they go away.

David's "Floor"

I looked for interesting floors all week but didn't see anything that stood out. We didn't visit any of the palaces or royal facilities in London but I did like this view of multiple floors when waltzing through Harrod's.

Cory's Floor

Last Sunday we packed two adults, two kids, one cat, and lots of junk into our two cars and fled Los Alamos as the mountains behind the town burnt. We dropped a load of the junk off at DesertDave's place before heading to Omaha for the rest of the week, and all but one of my lenses was among the castoffs. So when I got to my parents' house and wanted to take a picture of one of the sanded-down nails in their floor, I had the wrong lens for the job. But that didn't stop me!

Next week: "Fourth of July"

In keeping with tradition next week's topic will be "Fourth of July". Try not to blow your fingers off!
