Craig's Ice

This is the Rideau Canal emptying into the Ottawa River. It is decidedly not ice, but bear with me.

The locks you see are the original locks, and are hand-operated to this day, and from May to October, you can navigate your way from the Ottawa River, down the canal, to Kingston, Ontario.

In the fall, they drain the canal and perform maintenance, then partially fill it back up. In the winter, the low water turns to ice, and 4.8 miles of the canal become the world's largest skating rink. Some people even make it part of their commute.
